Ireton Examiner April 29, 1993

William Koopmans, 76, a lifelong resident of Ireton, IA, died on Friday, April 23, 1993, at the Hawarden Community Hospital. Services were held on Monday afternoon, April 26, 1993, at the First Reformed Church in Ireton, where he was a member, the Reverend Douglas Van Aartsen officiating. Burial was in Pleasant Hill Cemetery at Ireton, under the direction of the Porter-Dow Funeral Home in Ireton.

Mr. Koopmans was born on January 13, 1917, in Union County, SD, the son of Fred and Anna (Vander Yen) Koopmans. He married Dorothy Ver Hoeven on September 26, 1940, at her parents farm near Ireton. He was the owner operator of a feed grinding and trucking business, and began farming in 1941. He was also a seed corn dealer for over 25 years.

The couple moved into Ireton in March of 1985. Survivors include his wife; two sons and their wives, Frederick and Shari of Hawarden, and Willard and Donna of Ireton; two daughters, Karen Lammers of Ireton and Wanda (Mrs. Steve) Bonnes of Indianola, IA; a brother, Arven Koopmans of .Renton, WA; three sisters, Margaret Ten Napel of Sioux Center, IA, Jeanette (Mrs. Andy) Anema and Henrietta (Mrs. Earl) Kooi, both of Ireton; two sisters-in-law, Viola Koopmans of Sioux Center, IA, and Leona Koopmans of Ireton; and 15 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepfather, Andrew Elgersma; two brothers, Charles and Henry; a sister, Marie; and a son-inlaw, Gerrit Lammers.
