John Kooistra Sr., was born in the Netherlands on February 12, 1882 and. emigrated to America at the age of 12 years. He married Minnie Van Heukelom on March 12, 1904. She preceded him in death on May 5, 1904.

To the union 12 children, we're born, three of whom died in infancy. Also a son-in-law, - Dick De Ruyter died.

Surviving children are Mr and Mrs, Martin Kooistra, Mr and Mrs John Kooistra Jr., Mr and Mrs Charles Kooima, Mr and Mrs Gerrit Kooistra and Mr and Mrs Tom Mulder all of Rock Valley. Mr and Mrs Sam Kooistra of Imvood, Mrs Lena De Ruyter of Ruthton, Minn., Mr and Mrs Elmer Kooistra of Sioux Center, and Mr and Mrs Richard Voortman of Chino, Calif.

There are 41 grandchildren arid 62 great grandchildren. Two brothers and three sisters are Rev Albert Kooistra of Wykoff, New Jersey, Martin Kooistra of Hull, Mrs Etta Niekerk of Denver, Colo., Mrs Effie De Boer of Rock Valley, and Mrs Cynthia Oostenink of Hull Mr Kooistra died at the Sioux Valley Hospital on Sioux Falls, S. D., on May 1, 1962 following a brief illness.
Funeral services were held Saturday, May 5 at 12:45 p. m. from the Little Chapel in Sioux Center and at 1:30 p. m. in the First Christian R e f o r m ed church in Rock Valley. Rev J. Byker officiated. Burial was in the Valley View cemetery at Rock Valley under the direction of the Coop funeral service of Sioux Center.
