Died: October 10, 1940

Nellie De Jong was born September 5, 1875 in The Netherlands and came to America early in life at the age of 18 and settled with a brother in South Dakota where she became a teacher in Douglas Co. New Holland, South Dakota. She also taught a bible school there for several summers. Then she went to New Mexico where she taught in the Mission Schools at Zuni and Rehobath and also in Arizona later returning to South Dakota where she taught a rural school near Zeebach. She received her Master of Arts Degree at State College at Spearfish, South Dakota.

On June 4, 1939 she was united in marriage to John Ten Harmsel of Hull at Eagle Butte, South Dakota and came to Hull where Mr. Ten Harmsel lives on an acreage.

She had been ill for several weeks with heart trouble and passed away at her home October 10, 1940.

She leaves to mourn her passing the husband, two brothers and two sisters in South Dakota and a sister in The Netherlands and two step daughters, Mrs. Richard Dykstra and Mrs. Peter Soodsma, Jr. of Hull.

The funeral was held in the Christian Reformed Church Monday, October 14, with interment in the Hope Cemetery.
