Richard “Rich” Adrian Bogaard, 93, Sibley, died Thursday, August 25, at Country View Manor in Sibley.

Services were Monday, August 29, at First Baptist Church in Sibley, with the Rev. Calvin Bogaard officiating. Burial was at Holman Township Cemetery in Sibley, under the direction of Andringa Funeral Home in Sibley.

Rich Bogaard, son of Arie and Gertrude (DeHaan) Bogaard, was born November 30, 1911, in Hospers. He lived and worked on the family farm in Hospers and attended a country school.

He married Leona Struyk of Sanborn on November 18, 1937, in Sheldon. They lived and farmed on the family farm in Hospers, where he enjoyed farming for 50 years.

They moved in 1960 to Ackley, where they owned and operated Bogaard Lumber and Construction Business with their son, Richard L. “Dick.” They sold the business in 1968, and moved to Seattle, where he was employed by the Lutheran Bible Institute until 1979, when he retired. They moved to Little Rock. They wintered in Harlingen, Texas, for several years after retirement.

He suffered a stroke in 1999 and moved to Country View Manor in Sibley in 2000. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Sibley.

Survivors include his wife, Leona Bogaard of Sibley; a son, Richard L. and Nancy Bogaard of Park Rapids, Minnesota; four daughters, Donna and Dean Shelly of Rock Rapids, Linda and Meint Huesman of Vero Beach, Florida, Letha and James Huntsperger of Mill Creek, Washington, and Beth and Brian DeRuyter of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; 11 grandsons; a granddaughter; 10 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Calvin and Ellan Bogaard of Richmond, Texas, and David and Arden Bogaard of Santa Cruz, California; two sisters, Leona and Sidney Vander Woude of Coralville, and Norma and Roger Gintert of Santa Cruz, California; and a sister-in-law, Hazel Bogaard of Sheldon.

He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Mary Ann Bogaard; a sister, Marjorie and Jack Duimstra; and two brothers, Victor and Nelvina Bogaard and Milo Bogaard.
