Terpstra, Mrs Y. 1861-1947

Mrs. Y. Terpstra passed away at her home on Sunday evening after a long illness due to old age and complications. She had reached the age of 86 years.

Pietje Nydam Terpstra was born on Feb. 8, 1861 at Cubaard, Friesland, Netherlands. The family came to America in the year of 1910 and spent the first number of years on farms in the Rock Valley, Inwood, and Fairview, S. Dak. vicinities.
They made their home at Inwood in the year of 1918 when the Christian Reformed Church was organized and were faithful members of this church for many years. In the year of 1931 Mr. Terpstra became ill with the flu and pneumonia and passed away March 30. Mrs. Terpstra made her home at Inwood for a short time following his death and then lived for some time with her daughter at Alvord, later moving to Orange City. The last four years she made her home at the Mrs. Wm. Vander Linden rsidence where her son Mr. and Mrs. Bert Terpstra cared for her the last year.

Left to mourn her departure are the following children; Jake of Boreman, Montana, Tryntje of Inwood, Bert of Sioux Center, Ed of Santa Cruz, Calif., Mrs. D. Maliepard of Grand Rapids, Mich., and Hattie of Inwood. There are also 24 grandchildren. She is also survived by a brother Mr. Bert Nydam of the Sheldon Holland home. One child preceded her in death while the family was still in the Netherlands.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 27, at one o'clock at the Coo-op Funeral parlors and at one thirty o'clock at the First Christian Reformed Church, Rev. B. Haan and Rev. O. Breen will be in charge of the services. Six grandsons, Arnold Feenstra, John Wallenburg, Ernest Terpstra, Leonard De Kruif, Ed Bloemendaal and Henry Meidema, will act as pall bearers.

The body will be laid to rest at Richland Township Cemetery at Inwood, Iowa where Rev. Nickolas Beute will be in charge of the graveside service.
