Arnold Ahlfs of LeMars a former well known resident of this vicinity died at his home Wednesday night, Jan. 6th , following an illness of six months. For the past fifty years with the exception of a year or so he had resided in Plymouth County.

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock in St. John's Lutheran church in Le Mars, with Rev. L.L. Belk, the pastor officiating. Interment was made in the Le Mars cemetery.

Arnold Ahlfs was born Dec. 4 1870 in Wiesede, Ost Friesland, Germany, where he received his education and was confirmed in the Lutheran Church. He came to America in 1885, locating at Wymore, Neb., where a sister, Mrs. John Peeks, lived. On the death of his sister, a few months later, he came to Plymouth County and worked on farms. He was united in marriage Feb. 1, 1894, with Mary Albers and following their marriage they settled on a farm three miles northwest of Ireton where they lived one year when they moved onto a farm in Grant Township, Plymouth county. They resided in Grant Township until 1920 when they moved to Le Mars, which was his home continuously since that time. Mr. Ahlfs was a successful farmer and when land was reasonably priced he purchased farms but later when he moved to Le Mars, he entered the insurance business. He was treasurer of the German Mutual Farmers Association of Lyon, Plymouth, and Sioux counties for fifteen years.
He is survived by his wife and one daughter, Mrs. J. O. Frerichs, and two grandchildren. He also leaves five brothers and sisters, John Ahlfs of Hawarden; Mrs. John Kleine of Le Mars; Mrs. George Reeifs of Vermillion and Gert and John Ahlfs who reside in Germany.
