Funeral services were held at the First Reformed Church here at 1:30 p.m. Monday, December 20, for Nick Vander Ploeg, 81, retired farmer and life-long resident of Sioux Center vicinity, who died at the Sioux Center Community Hospital early Friday morning following a brief illness.

Services were conducted by the Rev. John Roggen and burial was made in the Sioux Center Community Cemetery under the direcion of Vander Ploeg's Funeral Home.

Mr. Vander Ploeg was born in Sioux Center, September 22, 1884. He was married to Ella Vande Berg February 23, 1910, and to this union were born four sons, and one daughter, all of whom survive him. Mrs. Vander Ploeg preceded him in death oh January 7, 1956. The five children are Theodore, Lawrence, Donald, and the Rev. Elmer Vander Ploeg, and Theresa, at home.

Other survivors include 15 grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and the following brothers and sisters; Mrs. John Rozeboom of Steen, Minn. Charles Vander Ploeg of Orange City, Mrs. Gerrit Huitink of Orange City, John of Yucipa, Calif., Mrs. Rev. Ray Lubbers, of Orange City, Mrs. Dick Raak, and Mrs. Tunis Den Herder of Sioux Center. Two brothers and two sisters, preceded him in death--William who passed away Dec. 21, 1944, and a brother, who died in infancy; Mrs. Henry Van Roekel, who died December 15, 1965, another sister, Fannie who died as a young girl.

Mr. Vander Ploeg had served as an elder in the Carmel Reformed Church for many years and was also en elder of the First Reformed Church.

Pall bearers were Henry Vander Ploeg, Glen Den Herder, Dennis Raak, Henry Huitink, Neal Van Roekel, Bert Rozeboom.
