Mrs. Mary Walpole, 76, died at a Mason City Hospital at 8 o’clock Friday morning following a short illness. She had resided in Mason City with her daughter Laura Walpole since October 19, 1942.

Mary Stevens was born January 12, 1886 in County May, Ireland. As a child of 12 she came with her family to the United States and they established their residences at New Richmond, Wisconsin. In 1888 they moved to Sioux County near Rock Valley. Mrs. Walpole had made her resident near and in Rock Valley for twenty years.

On November 25, 1890 she was married to Matthew Walpole who preceded her in death, December 20, 1940 at Rock Valley. To this union were born two children, James and Laura, who survive her. She also leaves three brothers, Will and John Stephens of Rock Valley and Tom Stephens of Mt. Vernon, Washington, besides numerous other relatives. Mrs. Walpole was a member of the Ladies Aid of Rock Valley and of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Rock Valley.

A rosary was said at 8 o’clock Friday night at the chapel of the McAnley and Son Funeral Home, with Father Joseph Kleiner of the Holy Family Church in charge. Funeral services were held in St. Mary’s Church at Rock Valley at 9 o’clock Monday morning with Rev. Father David McGoey in charge.

Out of town relatives were Mrs. Dale Farran of Rowan, Iowa, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Collins and Grace of Worthing, South Dakota, Mr. and Mrs. August Rasmussen, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Clay, and Mrs. William Engle of Beresford, South Dakota.

Mrs. Mary Walpole of Rock Valley died Sunday evening at the Hull Hospital. Her daughter, Mrs. Larry Arnotte of Logansport, Indiana arrived the last of the week. She had been in the hospital about a week. Funeral services were held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church on Wednesday morning at 9. She has three daughters.
