Died: 1945Mrs. Gerrit Wanningen passed away at her home here early Wednesday morning after a lingering illness due to cancer. She had reached the age of 45 years.
Left to mourn her departure are her husband and four children, Mrs. Alfred Bruins, Mrs. Elmer Lutjens of Hull, Mrs. Richard Kroon and Arnold Arendson in the navy serving overseas. Also two stepchildren, Mrs. Richard Gerritson of Rock Valley and Floyd Wanningen also in the service. One grandchild and four brothers, namely Joseph, Spinden of Des Moines, Walter Spinden of Winside, Nebraska; Thralin Spinden of Lakeview, Iowa; Edwin Spinden of Summer, Iowa and six sisters, Mrs. Sara Niehaus of Cedar Rapids; Mrs. Laura Davidson and Mrs. Henry Howen both of Riverside, California; Mrs. Harriet Vander Vliet of Hull; Mrs. Julia Davis of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Mrs. Clara Popma of Cherokee.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday afternoon, April 14, 1945 at 2:30 o’clock at the home and at 3:00 at the First Baptist Church with Rev. J.C. Kastelein officiating. Burial will take place at the local cemetery.
Mrs. Wanningen, nee Mary Spinden was born in Sioux Center on June 4, 1899. She spent her early childhood years here and then moved to a farm near Doon with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. H.H. Spinden. On October 1st, 1917 she was united in marriage to Mr. Peter Arendsen who preceded her in death passing away on April 26, 1930. An infant son Eugene Rae passed away on October 2, 1926 at the age of two years.
On December 2, 1933 she was united in marriage to Mr. Gerrit Wanningen who now survives her with the children.
Her son, her stepson and three sons-in-law are all in the service and all are overseas.
