Schoeneman, J.H.C. 1881-1960

Funeral services for J.H.C. Schoeneman, 79, who died Wednesday in a Sioux City hospital following a short illness after he suffered a stroke, were held at 11 o'clock Saturday morning at the Associated Church. Rev. William S. Sebring officiated and interment was under the direction of the Barnard Funeral Home at Grace Hill Cemetery.

Masonic rites, Dale Lodge No. 456, A.F.& A.M. conducted by Rev. Davies of Hudson S.D. at the burial. Casket bearers were L.R. Carsten, Loren Swanson, J.E. Tilger, Lee Keehn, Elden Berge and Dr. R. E. Thompson.

Hal Shoemaker, as soloist sang "The Old Rugged Cross" and "The Lord's Prayer," and was accompanied by Mrs. Shoemaker.

Mr. Schoeneman, a well-known lumber dealer, as a member of the Schoeneman Bros. Co. which operates 12 lumber yards, was sole owner of the Warbarton Lumber Co. of Sheldon, which he operated the past three years.

He was born October 28, 1881, at Walnut, Iowa, and came to Hawarden from Hull as a young man.

He married Gertrude Brunskill in 1905 and she preceded him in death. Also preceding him in death were four brothers, including Frank of Hawarden, three sisters, and a son who died in infancy.

Mr. Schoeneman was a member of the Associated Church and Masonic Lodge in Hawarden. He was a charter member of the Rotary Club here.

He also was a member of the Abu-Bekr Shrine and the Moose Lodge of Sioux City.

Survivors are three daughters, Mrs. Lois March and Miss Jeanette Schoeneman, both of Wayne, Nebraska, and Mrs. Margaret Lankhorst of Hawarden; a brother, A.C. Schoeneman of Sioux Falls; six grandchildren and six great-grandchldren.
