Ellen Schoenrock, 94, died Thursday, June 8, 2006 at Hillcrest Health Care Center, Hawarden. Funeral service was June 13 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Hawarden. Burial was at Grace Hill Cemetery. The Rev. Todd Bunge officiated. Porter Funeral Home, Hawarden, assisted the family with arrangements.

Ellen Schoenrock was born December 4, 1911 the daughter of Paul and Rachel (Pitts) Durr in Le Mars. Ellen was a telephone operator in Le Mars before she was united in marriage to Emil Schoenrock on Feb. 6, 1929 in Le Mars. Together they farmed near Le Mars until 1932 when they moved to Hawarden. Ellen worked with Emil in the popcorn stand for 50 years. She was one of the founders of the Thrift Shop in 1974, volunteering until 1995. Ellen also did some childcare in her spare time. Ellen was a longtime member of Ladies Aid, Sunday School teacher and sang in the choir. Ellen moved to Hillcrest Care Center on June 1, 2006.
Survivors include her daughter, Elaine Kerr of San Diego, Calif.; sons Garland Schoenrock of Victoria Kansas; Gary Schoenrock of Atlantic, Iowa; and Dennis Schoenrock of Hawarden; nine grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law; Lorraine Durr of Merrill, and Colleen Durr of Le Mars.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Emil in 1995; brothers; Carl and Orville Durr; sisters; Irene Nanninga, Alice Madsen and Jeanne Corley; son-in-law Don Kerr.
