Hawarden Independent, December 8, 1938

Ellsworth Dawson, a resident of this community practically all his life, passed away at the Hawarden hospital at noon Tuesday from pneumonia, after an illness of about ten days. He was a very sick man when he entered the hospital a little more than a week preceding his death. There was some improvement in his condition for a few days but Sunday he suffered a relapse and was unable to rally.

Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 1 o'clock at the home northwest of Hawarden and at 2 o'clock in the Baptist Church in this city, with Rev. Ewing Holland, the pastor, in charge. Interment will be made in Grace Hill cemetery.

Edgerton Ellsworth Dawson was the son of the late Mr. & Mrs. Will Dawson, pioneer residents of Lincoln county, S.D., several miles northwest of Hawarden. He was born on the farm home July 8, 1892, so was only 46 years of age at the time of his death. Practically all of his life was spent in farming northwest of Hawarden where some fifteen or twenty years ago he was engaged extensively in the thoroughbred hog business. He was united in marriage at Allen, Neb. with Ruth N. Kepford on December 3, 1913, the 25th anniversary of his marriage occurring just a few days before his death. Besides his wife he is survived by two sons and a daughter, Howard of Sioux Falls, and Harold and LaVonne at home. He also leaves two sisters, Mrs. Irene Ransdell of Kansas City, MO, and Mrs. Edna Hancher of Waterloo, Iowa.

Mr. Dawson had been a member of the Baptist church in Hawarden since 1925 and was highly esteemed by his friends and neighbors who extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family in their loss.
