Mrs. John (Gertrude) Dawson, 87, of Hawarden died Saturday, February 2, in the Hillcrest Care Center in Hawarden.

Services were at 1:30 P.M., Tuesday, February 5 in the United Methodist Church. The Rev. Paul Hansen officiated. Burial was in Grace Hill Cemetery. Family visitation was from 7:30 to 8:30 P.M., Monday, February 4, in the Dow Funeral Home.

Mrs. Dawson, the former Gertrude Angeil, was born Oct. 17, 1897, at Arlington, S.D. She graduated from Arlington High School and taught in several rural South Dakota communities. She married John Dawson, Feb. 14, 1918, at Sioux Falls, SD. They farmed in Union County, SD for 52 years. He died Aug. 30, 1968, and she moved to Hawarden at that time.

Mrs. Dawson was a member of the United Methodist Church and UMW. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star for more than 50 years and was a Past Matron. She was a member of MIC, rural Friendly Neighbors Club, Hawarden Historical Society and a 50 year member of the American Legion Auxiliary.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. R. W. (Patricia) Camp of Madison, Wis., and Mrs. Don (Betty) Gothier of Anthon, one sister, Mrs. Lloyd Knox of Snohomish, Wash.; five grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
