Funeral services for Mrs. Fred Dawson, 60 whose life was snuffed out in a tragic train-car accident Monday morning, were held at 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon at the Associated church, Rev. William Sebring officiating. Burial was in Grace Hill cemetery under the direction of the Barnard Funeral Home.

Mrs. Dawson was killed instantly when the automobile she was driving was struck by the Milwaukee railroad arrow at a crossing in the north part of town. She was driving east from Calliope when the crash occurred about 9:30.

Although the automobile was engulfed in flames as the gasoline tank was torn from the car, Mrs. Dawson was believed to have been dead before the fire broke out. The car was badly damaged from the impact, however, the Hawarden fire department quickly put out the flames.

The accident was investigated by Harry Dykstra, Sioux County sheriff, Milo Hartman, city chief of police, and Sam Blair, justice of the peace who also acted as coroner.

Margaret Marion Storm was born February 26, 1899, at Joliet, Ill. She married Fred Dawson, September 13, 1917, and the couple had farmed near Hawarden since that time.

As a member of the Associated Church, Mrs. Dawson belonged to the afternoon fellowship group. She was active in the Loyal Chapter, Order of Eastern Star, having served as past matron. She was a talented pianist and played in a piano trio which performed at Star meetings in Sioux City and Akron, as well as at Hawarden.

She was also a member of the P.E.O. and the local Mutual Improvement and Friendly Neighbors clubs and was active in community life.

At the funeral service Mrs. Ralph Gregg, Jr. sand, "My God and I", and Hal Shoemaker sang, "Sometime We'll Understand". Mrs. Shoemaker was the organist.

Pall bearers were Harry Hodoway, Harold Shoemaker, Will Gregg, Charles Vipond, Lee Keehn, and Warren Gregg. Honorary pall bearers were Jack Armstrong, Earl Slife, Sr., Oscar Norberg and Orrin Harris.

Mrs. Dawson is survived by the widower, a son, James of Hawarden; two daughters, Mrs. Dale Green of Hawarden, and Mrs. Al Leuthauser of Bode, IA; two brothers, Charles Storm of Hawaii and Raymond Storm of Omaha; a sister, Mrs. Frances Gulling of Sioux Falls, and eight grandchildren.
