Lena Mae Winter 68, of Boyden died Friday, Sept. 11, 1998 at her residence.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. today at St. John Lutheran Church in rural Boyden, with the Rev. Steve Mehl and Mr. Scott Bonestroo officiating. Burial will be in St. John Lutheran Cemetery under the direction of Bolin Funeral Home in George, Iowa.

Mrs. Winter was born April 5, 1930, in rural George, the daughter of Leonard and Tena (Zorgdrager) Scholten. She was baptized in the Reformed faith. She attended rural school, Wheeler 6 and graduated from George High School in 1947. She attended Western Union College in Le Mars, Iowa. She then taught in Lyon and Sioux County for 4 years.

She married Wallace Winter on June 29, 1950, in Boyden. The couple made their home in the C.W. Winter homestead.

She was a former member of First Reformed Church in Boyden, where she taught Sunday School and catechism. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, where she taught Sunday School and directed the Cherub Choir. She coordinated projects for Lutheran World Relief and was responsible for organizing and updating St. John Lutheran Church Cemetery and church files. She was also a member of Sr. Saints Choir and enjoyed flowers,collecting dolls and angels.

Survivors include her husband; three daughters and their husbands, Debra and Ken Woelber of Hull, Ia, Susan and Dennis Bonestroo and Mary Beth and Scott Johnsen, all of Boyden; a son and his wife Daryl and Kathy of Boyden; 13 grandchildren, Melinda Van Beek, Todd and Troy Woelber, Tracey Wilkens, Scott, Jennifer, Carl and Joel Bonestroo, Teresa and Bruce Pollema, Kelly and Jeremy Winter and Carter Johnson; 4 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Caroline Riebeling of Thornton, Colo., and Christina and her husband, Duane Buttenob, of Aurelia, Iowa; three brothers and their wives, John and Sally Scholten of Englewood Colo.,Gene and Gertrude Scholten of George and Leonard and Robert Scholten of Brainerd, MN; a sister-in-law Fern Krayliing of George, four brothers-in-law, Vernon Heitritter of Boyden, Kenneth Winter of Sioux City, Waldo Kruse of Burt, Iowa, and Lloyd and his wife, Arles Winter of Boyden; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two infant siblings, three brothers-in-law, and three sisters-in-law.
