Magdalene Vander Spoel, 81, of Sioux Center died Sunday, January 26, at the nursing wing of Sioux Center Community Hospital.
Memorial services will be at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, January 29, at First Christian Reformed Church in Sioux Center with the Rev. John Witvliet officiating. Burial will be at the Hope Cemetery in Hull at 10:30 a.m. Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Vander Ploeg Chapel in Sioux Center.
Magdalene Vander Spoel was born on June 15, 1915 at Lakewood to Theodore E. and Pearl (Ykema) Vander Spoel. She worked at various places in her lifetime. She worked at the Hull Hospital until its closing and then at Maris Maternity Ward in Sioux Center until its closing. She then was a house keeper for George Reimersma for 22 years. After that she started her own knit shop in Sioux Center. She loved to knit, crochet and sew. She moved into the nursing wing of Sioux Center Community Hospital in 1992.
Survivors include three sisters, Cecilia De Stigter, and Emma Vanden Berg, both of Sioux Center and Gertrude and her husband Albert Van't Hul of Luverne Minnesota; one brother, Arnold and his wife Jackie Vander Spoel of Fort Meyers Beach, Florida; one sister in law, Henrietta Brouwer of Hull; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Henry, and one sister, Jacoba Vanden Brink.
