Hawarden Independent, October 24, 1935

Mrs. Cornelia Van Oosterhout, pioneer Orange City woman passed away Wednesday, Oct. 16th, at the age of 83 years and 6 months. She was born in The Netherlands and was united in marriage there in 1870 with Martin P. Van Oosterhout, who died in 1906. With her family she came to America in 1878, and they located first at Pella, Iowa, but after two years there went to Holland, Mich., for a short time but came to Orange City in 1881, and her home has ever since been there. She is survived by four children, P. D. Van Oosterhout, Dirk A. Van Oosterhout, Mrs. Nicholas Burggraff and Miss Dena Van Oosterhout. She also leaves seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren. The funeral was held at Orange City last Friday afternoon.
