On April 4, 1973, he married Evonne Rae VandeBurgt at Hull. They made their home on an acreage near Maurice where Jerry was a carpenter and a farmer. In 1978, he founded Wielenga Construction, doing much carpentry and concrete work in the area.

He was a member of the First Reformed Church, where he had served on the consistory as a deacon. He was also active in the Maurice Town and Country Booster Club.

Jerry thoroughly enjoyed working and farming. He loved spending time with his family, and his grandsons had a special place in his heart.

Survivors include his wife of thirty years, Evonne; four children, Jill and her husband, Rick Schouten, of Ireton, Jeffrey Wielenga of Orange City and Jodi Wielenga and Darren Wielenga, both at home; two grandsons, Andrew Dylan and Brett Jacob Schouten; his mother, "Jo" Wielenga, of Orange City; and two sisters and their husbands, Linda and Wally Valentine and Janna and Allan Bolkema, all of Sioux Center.

He was preceded in death by his father, "Lou".
