Winifred Wielenga, 83, of Orange City died Tuesday, October 12, at the Pioneer Memorial Home in Orange City. A memorial service was Friday, October 15, at 10:30 a.m. at Redeemer United Reformed Church in Orange City with the Rev. Ralph Pontier officiating. Interment was at the West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City.

Mrs. Wielenga was born January 3, 1921, in West Branch Township, the daughter of Albert and Minnie (Hubers) Gerritsen, Sr. She was raised on a farm east of Sioux Center and attended country school and the Rock Valley Christian School.

She first married Louis J. De Vries in Rock Valley, He died August 20, 1968, in Orange City. Later, she married Louis P. Wielenga in Orange City. He died November 9, 2002, in Orange City.

She became a resident of the Pioneer Memorial Home on February 24 of this year. In addition to being a homemaker, she was a housekeeper in private homes, worked in the laundry at the Orange City Municipal Hospital, and was a cook at the Heritage House Nursing Home in Orange City. She was a member of the Redeemer United Reformed Church and Coffee Break. She enjoyed playing cards and visiting with friends. She has played cards with the same group of ladies since 1950. In earlier years, she liked to braid rugs and sew.

Survivors include her two sons and their wives', Mark and Sandi De Vries of Lansing, Illinois, and David and Janet De Vries of Riverside, California; two stepchildren and their spouses, Nelson and Vicki Wielenga of Garretson, South Dakota, and Patricia and Ron De Weerd of Rock Valley; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a sister, Harriet Driesen of Sioux Center; and two sisters-in-law, Gladys Gerritsen of Spencer and Tina Gerritsen of Chino, California.

She was also preceded in death by 11 brothers and sisters, Henry Gerritsen, John Gerritsen, Peter Gerritsen, Hattie Vande Kamp, Ida De Jaeger, Alice Lems, Anna Roelofs, Minnie Roelofs, Albert Gerritsen, Bill Gerritsen and Nellie Driesen.
