Jack Flemming, former Hawarden resident, died at his home at Austin, Minn., Monday noon following a long illness. He had been bedfast since last July and up until two weeks ago had been cared for in a veterans' hospital at Ft. Snelling, Minn. His condition bad been critical for some time and the end was not unexpected.

Accompanied by members of his family, the remains will arrive in Hawarden this afternoon and funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock, today at the Methodist church, with Rev. Robt. H. Forrester In charge. Interment will be made in Grace Hill cemetery. Members of the American Legion will act as pall bearers and will have charge of the services at the grave.

The deceased was about 34 years of age. He served overseas in the navy during the World War as captain of a gun crew. He suffered from shell shock several times and this is believed to have been a contributing cause of his illness.

Shortly following his discharge from the navy in 1918 he came to Hawarden and made his home here for about a year and a half. On Thanksgiving day, 1920, he was united in marriage with Miss Bessie McAninch of Hawarden. Immediately after their marriage they went to Austin, Minn., where they have made their home. Two daughters were born to them, Valeria, aged 9, and Betty Lou, aged 6, both of whom, with the widow, survive him. He is also survived by his aged mother, four brothers and two sisters, all residing in Austin. Mrs. Flemming's mother, Mrs. S. R. McAninch of Hawarden, has been at Austin the past two weeks assisting in his care and is accompanying the funeral party here today.

Poster's Note: According to their marriage announcement in the December 2, 1920 Hawarden Independent, Jack Flemming was John Flemming, son of Mr. and Mrs. S. M. Flemming.
