Kathyrne A. Hibma was born in Humboldt Township, Minnehaha County, South Dakota, the daughter of Sip and Hannarika (Rumkus) Hibma. She was raiseds in Northwest Iowa.
As an adult, she made her home in Orange City, where she was a housemother and cook at Northwestern College and a cook at the Pioneer Home. She was also a caregiver to her family, especially her parents, and Jake and Arta Hofmeyer.

In May of 1999, she became a resident of the Pioneer Memorial Home.

Kathyrne was a member of the First Reformed Church, where she had participated in the women's organizations. She enjoyed sewing and spending time with her friends.

Survivors include three brothers, William of Orange City; Peter and his wife Grace of Maurice; and the Rev. Dr. John Edward Hibma and his wife, Betty of Grandville, Michigan; two sisters, Anna Schaap of Orange City, and Alida and her husband, Leonard Topp of Hamilton, Michigan; a sister-in-law, Gloria Hibma of Lakeland Fla; and many nephews and nieces, great nephews and nieces, and great-great nephews and nieces.

She is preceded in death by a brothr, Gerrit Hibma; two sisters-in-law Katherine Hibma and Margaret Hibma; and a brother-in-law John Schaap.
