Hermijntje Vande Waerdt, 100, of Sioux Center died Wednesday, Feb. 16, at the Sioux Center Health Center.

Services were at 1:30 p.m. Sat. Feb. 19 at Memorial Funeral Home in Sioux Center with the Rev. John den Hoed officiating. Burial was in Memory Gardens Cemetery, Sioux Center.

The former Hermijntje Van Kolfschoten was born July 14, 1893, to Willem and Hermijntje Van Kolfschoten near Woudenberg, The Netherlands. She married Anthony Vande Waerdt on Sept. 14, 1916. After their marriage they lived in The Netherlands until 1920 when they came to the United States on the "Veendam" and settled in Middleburg, Rock Valley and Inwood, where they were engaged in farming until 1925 when they returned to The Netherlands for a short time. They decided that America was where they wanted to live and made a second trip to America in the "Nieuw Amsterdam." They arrived in Rock Valley on May 17, 1925. They continued to farm in Rock Valley, Inwood, and Canton, S.D. vicinities for 23 years. They retired and moved to Sioux Center. After a lingering illness, her husband died on March 9, 1969. She lived at home until she moved into the newly constructed Franken Manor. She moved into the nursing wing of the Sioux Center Community Hospital on Nov. 2, 1988.

Survivors include a son and his wife Henry and Tena of Orange City; a daughter-in-law, Henrietta of Rock Valley; six grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and two great-great- grandchildren.
