The couple enjoyed retirement, keeping places in both Sioux Falls, S.D. and Mesa Ariz. They enjoyed golfing together, marshalling tournaments and just being in the sun. When he had time, Carl enjoyed fishing, hunting and hiking in the Arizona Mountains.

Dr. Carl was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, and Victory Lutheran Church in Arizona, where he and his wife were charter members. He also remained activie in the South West Dental District as a past officer, was a member of the Minnehaha Country Club, the Elks, the American Legion and a life member of Iowa Alumni Association.
