John Vande Berg Sr. passed away Thursday evening, December 19, at the Community Memorial Hospital in Sheldon, at the age of 78 years, 9 months and 3 days. He had been a patient at the hospital since suffering a heart attack the previous Saturday night.

Mr. Vande Berg was born on a farm near Sioux Center March 16, 1885. He grew to manhood in this area and on August 22, 1910, was united in marriage to Alice Nettinga. Their wedded life was spent in Hull, where Mr. Vande Berg was engaged in the implement business for a good many years, after which he operated a dairy route. Mrs. Vande Berg passed away March 13, 1960.

In February, 1962, Mr. Vande Berg sold his home and household goods and went to live with a daughter and family, the Arie Koerselmans, in Sheldon, until his death.

Preceding Mr. Vande Berg in death were his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Vande Berg, his wife, seven brothers and sisters.

Surviving are a son, John Jr., of rural Sioux Center; two daughters, Agnes (Mrs. Arie Koerselman) of Sheldon, and Kathleen (Mrs. Les Van Muyden) of Hull; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. G. Van Roekel of Sioux Center.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon, December 23, from the farm home of his son, John and from the American Reformed Church in Hull, Rev. Harold C. Rengenoldus officiated at the service.

Interment was made in Hope Cemetery at Hull, under the direction of the Kraai Funeral Home.
