Mrs. Henry J. Scholten, nee Anna Ketel, was born May 12, 1880 in the Alton Orange City area where she since resided. She attended the Alton public school but before entering high school her mother died and she remained at home to assist with the duties in the home and with the care of an infant sister.

On July 22, 1898 she was united in marriage to Henry John Scholten and to this union nine children were born. They are, in the order of their ages; Gerrit of Grand Rapids MI, Julia who died in infancy, Julia Mrs. Anthony Aberson on the old farm place, Anna Marie who died at age of 1 1/2 years, Lawrence, Marie, Leona, Elroy, and Marlys all at home.

Mrs. Scholten was taken to Rochester on August 11 and on 16th she submitted to an operation. Her little daughter Leona also entered the Mayo Clinic and became a medical patient. Both mother and daughter were treated at St. Mary's hospital and both were recovering nicely until on Sep 1 when relatives were summoned to her bedside and after a valiant fight for her life she passed away on Sept 7. Her oldest sister Mrs. John Roghair was with her almost constantly.

Besides this sister she leaves another sister, Mrs. Gerrit Roghair, residing here and four brothers Henry and Lewis Ketel at Bigelow MN, Nick at Worthington MN and John also of Bigelow, who with the sorrowing husband and children are mourning the passing of a loving sister and mother; Besides these a host of friends will greatly miss her.

Deceased was a member of the Reformed church and of it's Ladies Aid Society and attended these meetings regularly.

Funeral services were conducted on Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. at the house and at 1:30 at the Reformed church. Rev. J. Enwena local pastor having charge of the services.

Interment was made in Nassau cemetery.

Minnesota death certificate no. 1930-MN-010465 has her born May 12, 1880 in Holland [probably meaning Holland Township], parents Lawrence Kriel and Cynthia Thorsen Roghair; died of a pulmonary embolism, duration 1 day; underlying cause, left inguinal hernia (with repair), duration 14 years.
