One of the more painful accidents that has happened in this vicinity for some time occurred last Friday when the fifteen year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Milton Hickcox was drowned in the Sioux River while attending the annual Baptist picnic which was being held on the banks of the river near the Frank Wallace farm.

In company with some other boys he was swimming in the river and went to get a plank that had floated down the stream and his strength gave out before he reached it and he went down. No one near could swim or aid him in anyway.

The funeral was held last Saturday from the Methodist church. The parents have the sympathy
of all.

(From an ancestry.com account his parents are believed to be Milton Bradford Hickcox born Oct 1865 MO died 1941 Oregon and Eda Talcott 1870-1950, they had one other son born 1905 Howard Edgar Hickcox. In 1900 the family was living in Logan Tsp. Milton born 1865, Ida and Frank age 10. )
