Dorothy Geneva Wynja, 82, Sioux Center, died Tuesday, Sept. 26, at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City after a short illness.

Services will be 10:30am today (Saturday, Sept. 30) at Central Reformed Church in Sioux Center with Pastor Van Rathbun officiating. Burial will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Sioux Center, under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in Sioux Center.

Dorothy Wynja, daughter of Henry and Etta Den Herder, was born April 21, 1924. She grew up on the family farm near Sioux Center. She attended Welcome Township rural school and later graduated from Sioux Center High School. She married Christian "Chris" Wynja on Jan. 3, 1945. They lived for a short time on a farm near Orange City and for 12 years in Middleburg on a family farm near Sioux Center. She worked along side her husband with his custom corn shelling business and on their farm.

She loved to make wonderful quilts and crochet beautiful doilies, which she gave to her family and many friends. She took great pride in writing a book on the history of the Den Herder and Wynja families. She actively used her computer and the Internet to communicate with her children and grandchildren. She was an active member of Central Reformed Church in Sioux Center and loved to teach Sunday School, especially to a group of older women.

Survivors include her husband, Christian "Chris" Wynja of Sioux Center; a son, David and Sandra Wynja of Longmont, CO; two daughters, Mary and Randy Daughenbaugh of Rapid City, S.D. and Linda and Michael De Krey of Orange, TX; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Joan and Arthur Van Riesen of Sioux Center, and Ruth and Leon Koster of Sioux City.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Geneva and Bernard Bomgaars; and two infant brothers.
