Melvin J. Wynia, 76, Luverne MN, died Wednesday, Nov. 12, at the Minnesota Veteran Home in LuVerne.

Services were Monday, Nov 17, at American Reformed Church in LuVerne, MN, with the Rev. Dave Sikkema officiating. Burial was at Maplewood Cemetery in Luverne, under the direction of Engebretson Funeral Home in Luverne.

Melvin Wynia, son of Frank and Johanna (Rodenburgh) Wynia, was born July 11, 1927, on the family farm near Maurice. He attended country school and helped his father on the farm.

He married Arlene Den Herder in Sioux Center on September 7, 1951.

He was a U. S. Army veteran who served in Germany during the Korean Conflict. He entered the service January 27, 1951, and was honorably discharged on January 14, 1953. The couple first farmed in Rock Rapids, and then in March 1964 they purchased a farm near Luverne. He retired from farming in 1990. They moved into Luverne in 1995. He became a resident of the Minnesota Veterans Home April 2000.

He was a member of the American Reformed Church in Luverne, where he served as an elder, deacon, and catechism teacher. He loved music and singing. He also enjoyed woodworking and videotaping many family activities. He was a member of the Rock County Co-Op Board. The most important things to him were his faith, family and farming.

Survivors include his wife, of Luverne; sons, Merlin (Debra), David (Rhonda) and Roger (Julie), all of Luverne; daughters, Charlene (Chuck) Feikema, Maria (Victor) Van Dyk, Carol (Warren) Sandbulte and Janna (Brad) Klarenbeek, all of Luverne, and Delores (Matt) Peery of Sioux Falls; 18 grandchildren; brother, Martin (Wilmina) Wynia of Sioux Center; sisters, Tena Wynia and Frances Wynia, both of Sioux Center; sisters-in-law, Anna Wynia of Rock Rapids and Jean Wynia of Sheldon; and nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Louis and Cornie Wynia.
