Charles "Chuck" Wynia, 81, Rock Valley, died Friday, Dec. 10, at Hegg Memorial Health Center in Rock Valley.

Services were Monday, Dec. 13, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Rock Valley, with the Rev. James Demke officiating. Burial was at Valley View Cemetery in Rock Valley, under the direction of Porter Funeral Home in Rock Valley.

Chuck Wynia, son of John and Johanna (Dykstra) Wynia, was born April 11, 1923, in Rock Valley. He graduated from Rock Valley High School.

He worked on the Al-Can highway in Alaska.

He joined the U.S. Air Force in early 1943. He was discharged in 1946, and enrolled at Drake University in Des Moines.

He married Dorothy De Valois on June 4, 1947.

After college he worked for John Deere in Des Moines, then became a sales representative for J.O. Case in Carroll, and Ottumwa. He then joined Hardware Mutual Insurance and moved to LeMars.

He moved back to Rock Valley in 1956 to work with John Dykstra in the Ford garage.

After a time, he started an insurance, real estate and real estate development business.

He was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Rock Valley, where he was on the church council. He served on the hospital board and helped plan the community swimming pool and golf course.

Survivors include his wife, dorothy "Dot" Wynia; a son, Thomas and Mary Wynia of Story City; three daughters, JoAnn Slater of Adel, Jean and Craig Stoermer of Wayzata, MN, and Karen and Joe Hamilton of Shawnee, KS; 10 grandchildren; a great-grandson; and a sister-in-law, Jean Wynia of Rock Valley.

He was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Jerry Slater, and a brother, Pier Wynia.
