Ralph Van Zyl, age 77, of Orange City, died Tuesday, Aug. 4, 1992 at the Orange City Municipal Hospital.

Ralph was born Jan. 19, 1915 at Alton, the son of Guy and Minnie (Harmelink) Van Zyl. He was raised in Newkirk.

On January 16, 1941 he married Florence Wiersma at Middleburg, They lived at Newkirk. Ralph served in United States Army during World War II. He then operated Van Zyl Trucking and later Hospers Livestock. In Januarty of 1990 they moved to Orange City.

Mr. Van Zyl was a member of the Newkirk Reformed Church, where he served as deacon, and an elder on the consistory. He was also treasurer of the Sunday School for many years.

Survivors include his wife; three children, Richard of Grand Island, Neb., Sharon Bateman of Machakos, Kenya; and Lowell of Newkirk; six grandchildren; a brother, Herman of Montevideo, Minn., and a sister, Fannie Dekker of Worthington, Minn.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Junior.

Funeral services were held Friday, August 7, 1992 at the Newkirk Reformed Church with the Rev. Clarence Van Heukelom and the Rev. Roger Voskuil officiating. Interment followed at the Newkirk Cemetery under the direction of the Van Etten-Oolman-Van Gelder Funeral Home of Orange City.
