Laurence Harvey Wissink, 91, Sheldon, died Wednesday, September 6, at the Northwest Iowa Health Center in Sheldon.
Services were Saturday, Sept. 9, at the First Reformed Church in Sheldon, with the Revs. David Brower and Gordon Bloemandaal officiating. Burial was at East Lawn Cemetery in Sheldon, with military honors by American Legion Post 145 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7354 of Sheldon. Arrangements were under the direction of Vander Ploeg Funeral Home in Sheldon.
Laurence Wissink, son of Manus and Gertjes ( Van Mannen) Wissink, was born March 13, 1915, in Sioux Center. He married Phyllis Rowenhorst on August 21, 1943, in Everly. He served in the U.S. Army 1943-1946, for 35 months, during World War II in Italy and in the South Pacific. After his discharge, the couple lived in Rock Rapids, and in Sheldon, where he was self-employed in the construction business. He was one of the contractors of First Reformed Church in Sheldon.
He moved to Fieldcrest Assisted Living in Sheldon in 2002 and to Prairie View Nursing Home in Sanborn in 2005.
He was a member of First Reformed Church in Sheldon.
Survivors include his wife, Phyllis Wissink of Sanborn; three daughters, Mary and David Stegemann of Lakefield, MN, Helen and Robert Schoon, of Spirit Lake, and Susan and Bill Reimers of Boyden; two sons, Lee Wissink of Des Moines, and Jay and Donna Wissink of Dallas; 13 grandchildren; and five great grand children.
He was preceded in death by a grandson; 11 brothers and a sister.
