Mrs. John Zwier was born in Opperdoes, Netherlands in 1852 and died at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Jim J. Smit at Hospers on Saturday at age of 97 years, after a lingering illness.

Orphaned at the age of ten she made her home with an aunt. At eighteen she married Mr. John Zwier. In 1890 the family migrated to America, landed at Alamosa, Colorado, but settled on a farm in Maxwell City, New Mexico, for sixteen years. Mr. Zwier became a widow. She lived in Denver, Colorado from 1908 to 1918 then in Orange City, Iowa for six years and later in Grand Rapids, Michigan and Chicago, Illinois for three years. During the last eight years she made her home with her daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Smit at Hospers.

Of Mrs. Zwiers six children four survive: Rev. D. Zwier of Holland, Michigan, Mrs. J.J. Smit, Simon Zwier, both of Hospers, and Effa Zwier of Ann Arbor, Michigan. Mrs. Zwier was a very faithful member of the Christian Reformed Church and lived a deeply spiritual life. She leaves to mourn her departure several grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends beside her four children.

Funeral services were held Monday, at the home at 1:30 o’clock and at 2 o’clock from the Christian Reformed Church in Hospers with Rev. J.H. Geerlings officiating. Interment was made in the West Cemetery. Distant relatives attending the funeral were Rev. and Mrs. D. Zwier and family of Holland, Michigan, Miss Effa Zwier of Ann Arbor, Michigan, and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Klynsma of Denver, Colorado.
