Mr. Rhodus De Jager, 73, died Tuesday evening at the Orange City Municipal Hospital following a sudden illness. Services were held Friday, Oct. 5 at 1:30 p.m. at the First Reformed Church, Maurice. Rev. Edward Fikse officiated. Burial was in Sherman Township Cemetery, Maurice under direction of the Van Gelder Funeral Home, Orange City.

Mr. De Jager was born Nov. 9, 1910 in Maurice, the son of Barend and Janna (Nyhof) De Jager. He married Henrietta Schuller, Dec. 2, 1931 at Maurice. All of his life was spent in the Maurice vicinity and he lived almost 53 years in Center township where he farmed until retiring in December 1971. He was a life-long member of the First Reformed Church of Maurice where he had served as deacon. He was also a member of the Maurice Senior Citizen group.

Survivors include his wife, Henrietta; one son, Duane of Maurice; four daughters, Mrs. Edward (Joyce) Kroeze of Alton, Mrs. Dave (Elaine) Roetman of Vermillion, S.D., Mrs. Ronald (Marlene) De Jager of Maurice; Mrs. John (Carol) De Roon of Hawarden, 26 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren. Also one brother, Henry, of Ogilvie, Minn.; five sisters, Mrs. Rena Faber of Sioux City, Mrs. Susie Smit of Lynden, Wash, Mrs. Rose De Weerd and Mrs. Wilbert (Henrietta) Van De Kieft, both of Sioux Center and Mrs. William (Johanna) Vlietstra, Sr., of Orange City. He was preceded in death by four sisters and an infant great-grandchild.
