Died: August 12, 2004Marion Youngers, 74, Brookfield, Wisconsin, formerly of Hospers, died Thursday, August 12, in Brookfield.
Services were Tuesday, August 17, at St. John Vianny Church in Brookfield. Burial was at Wisconsin Memorial Park, under the direction of Becker Ritter Funeral Home in Brookfield.
Marion Youngers, son of Peter and Susanna Youngers, was born July 6, 1930, in Hospers. He graduated from the University of Iowa in Iowa City, where he was president of the Class of 1953 and member of Alpha Kappa Psi Business Fraternity. He received his juris doctorate from the University of Michigan Law School in 1959.
He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War as first lieutenant. He was employed 1969-1987 by Rexnord Inc., serving as vice president of taxes and vice president of law and general counsel. He more recently served in these capacities at Valuation Research Corporation.He served in a variety of professional and civic leadership roles, including vice president/director of Public Expenditure Research Foundation Inc.; president and national director of Tax Executives Institute Inc.; chairman of the Tax Committee, Wisconsin Association of Manufactures and Commerce; and consultant on International Taxation to the U.S. Senate Select Committee on Small Business under Sen.. Gaylord Nelson, 1978.
He also authored many books and articles on business, legal and tax issues including co-author of Political Action Communities Handbook. He served as a weekly panel member on “Business of Wisconsin” on Milwaukee Public Television and was a frequent lecturer at accounting, law and tax seminars. He served on the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Graduate School of Business Taxation Program and the University of Wisconsin-Madison Management Institute, International Business Program.
He was a member of the American Bar Association-Tax Section and the Virginia State Bar, M&E Exemption Committee as appointed by the governor of Wisconsin, International Fiscal Association, IRS Tax Practitioners Liaison Committee, Machinery & Allied Products Institute (Tax Council) and Metropolitan Milwaukee Association of Commerce (Tax Committee). He also was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Peggy (Van Patten) Youngers of Brookfield, Wisconsin; five children, Nicholas P. Youngers, Sidney C. and Michelle Youngers, Michelle S. and Paul Tierney Youngers, Jeffery V. Youngers, and Lisa R. and Chris Cowman; nine grandchildren; three brothers, Robert Youngers, Raymond and Elvira Youngers, and Peter Youngers; a sister, Marie Streff; and two sister-in-law, Marge Youngers and Dorothy McCabe.
He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Denise Arlene Youngers; and two brothers, Howard Youngers and Alfred Youngers.
Memorials may be made to the Marion A. Youngers Scholarship Fund at the University of Iowa College of Commerce.
