Source: Sioux Center News (2-28-1957)Stanley James Ykema, 11month-old son of Mr. and Mrs. August Ykema, former Hawarden residents who moved to Allandale, Michigan, in November of 1955, died unexpectedly at the home of his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. William Sandbulte, at Rock Valley Saturday.
relatives, having come to help both his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Ykema, and her parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Sandbulte, celebrate their wedding anniversaries. Young Stanley became ill with pneumonia during their visit here.
Funeral services were held at 1 o’clock Monday afternoon at the Sandbulte home in Rock Valley and at 2 o’clock at the Reformed Church at Carmel, Rev. William Hoffman officiating. Burial was at the Carmel Cemetery and Vander Ploeg’s Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Survivors besides his parents and grandparents include four sisters, Ruth Jane, Bernice Mae, LaVonne and Glenda Sue, and two brothers, Harvard Allen and Henry William.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Edwin, who died October 25, 1951.
The Ykema family formerly farmed near Hawarden.
