From the Alton Democrat of July 8, 1905

While walking along the Milwaukee railroad track about three miles west of Hull Thursday Charles Hansen, aged thirty years was run over by a westbound train and almost instantly killed. His legs were entirely severed from his body. The accident occurred at twelve-thirty that afternoon.

The engineer saw the man ahead of the train walking along the track and gave him plenty of warning but Hansen was not in a condition to move rapidly. The mangled remains were brought to Hull and placed in charge of the coroner.

Later they were identified by some members of a Milwaukee graveling gang with whom Hansen had been working a few days previously. He had told some of the laborers that he had friends in Sioux City and they were led to believe he had lived in Sioux City at one time.
