Helen Bertha Bouma, 88, of Hull, died Saturday, Feb. 13,1993 at the Oak Park Care Center in Sheldon.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Feb. 16 at 10:30 a.m. at the First Christian Reformed Church in Hull. The Rev. Roger Bouwman officiated. Burial was in Hope Cemetery in Hull under direction of the Kraai-Oolman-Funeral Home in Hull.

The former Helen Bertha Nieuwenhuis was born June 23,1904 in Prinsburg, Minnesota, the daughter of John and Alice (Pheifer) Nieuwenhuis. She was raised at Prinsburg and graduated from Western Academy in Hull in 1923.

She married Peter B. Bouma at Prinsburg, June 28. 1928. She devoted her life to Christian education, serving as a teacher in Christian schools in Iowa, Minnesota and California. In 1967 Mr. and Mrs. Bouma retired to Hull. In 1985 they moved to the Christian Retirement Home in Sheldon. In October of 1987 she became a resident of the care center. Mr. Bouma died Nov. 5, 1987 at Sheldon.

She was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church of Hull.

Survivors include her three daughters and their husbands, Betty and Leo Jonker of Hampton, Minn.; Judith and Kenneth Zigterman of Sheldon; and Jacqueline and Glenn De Jong of Alton; a brother, John Nieuwenhuis of Prinsburg; two sisters, Grace Vander Bill of Prinsburg and Clara Apol of Byron Center, Michigan; 10 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a grandson, a great-grandson, a brother and eight sisters.
