BOYDEN, Iowa | Marjorie L. Kuyper, 80 of Rancho Cordova, Calif., formerly of the Boyden area, passed away on June 26, 2013.

Memorial services are planned for October in Iowa.

Marjorie was born in Kansas, on Nov. 8, 1932, to Tenis and Nellie Engelsman. In 1945, the family moved to Iowa, the first of many moves for Marjorie.

She married her high-school sweetheart, Harold Kuyper in Boyden in 1952. Harold joined the U.S. Air Force in 1953, and thus began a life of travel and adventure. Along the way, they were blessed with two boys, Bruce and Loren. After living in eight states (some more than once) and Germany, Harold retired from the U.S. Air Force in 1979. They decided to make their home in Rancho Cordova, where they remained for the next 31 years. They did not lose their itch to see new places, however, and continued to travel extensively for 29 of those 31 years.

In between all the moves, Marjorie found time to serve as den mother when Bruce and Loren joined the Cub Scouts. She was always active in her local church, often singing in the choir. As her sons demanded less of her time, she landed her ideal job as a bookkeeper for Safeway.

She is survived by sons, Bruce (wife, Angela) and Loren; grandson, Jared; and brother, Ronald (wife, Elena).

Marjorie was preceded in death by Harold, her husband of 58 years; and her sister, Wilma.

She will be greatly missed by all of us.
