Hawarden Independent, November 11, 1915

Henry Dowdey, a former well known resident of Sioux County, died in the hospital in Rock Island, Ill., last Sunday from lockjaw, following an operation for gall stones. The operation took place just two weeks prior to his death. He seemed to be getting along nicely until the tetanus germs obtained a hold upon his system. He succumbed a few days following. His son Harry was summoned from Clara City, Minn, and he decided to bring the body here for burial. The body arrived here this morning and was accompanied by Harry Dowdey, Mrs. Fanny Torrance of Rock Island, and W. H. Palmer and son Earl and daughter Helen of Maquoketa, Iowa. The funeral will be held at 2 o'clock Friday afternoon at the M. E. Church.

Henry Dowdey, was born at Salem, VA, May 7, 1862. He came to Hawarden with his parents in 1882 and on March 12, 1884, was united in marriage with Miss Anna Nelson. Nine children was born to them, five of whom are still living. Those surviving are Mrs. E. D. Jefferson of Sioux City; Harry W. and Charles Dowdey of Clara City, Minn.; Guy and Roy Dowden of Hawarden. The deceased was a resident of Hawarden for a time following his marriage and then moved onto a farm in Garfield township where he resided for a number of years. A few years ago he sold the farm and has since been making his home in Illinois.
