Mrs. Marinda Dowdey died at her home in this city last Thursday at the age of 76 years. She had been in poor health for about a year and a half but her immediate illness was only of short duration. The deceased was born Nov. 12, 1832 in Franklin County, VA. In 1854 she was married to Joseph W. Dowdey. Seven children were born to them, four boys and three girls. One son and daughter dying at an early age. Those living are: Mrs. Jennie Palmer, of Maquoketa, Iowa; Mrs. Lucy Butt of Salem, VA; J. H. Dowdey, Hudson, SD; B. T. Dowdey, of DeSmet, SD, and S. J. Dowdey, of Denver, Colo.

Mrs. Dowdey was a faithful wife and devoted mother. Besides raising her own family she raised one nephew, Andrew Payne and one grandson, Emery Scranton, to manhood.

She was a great lover of flowers and music, they being her chief pleasures of life during the past few years, she being confined to her home, although not confined strictly to bed until Oct. 16th, when she fell and injured her spine which later caused her death.

The funeral was held Sunday at the M. E. Church, Rev. R. A. Quinn officiating. Three of the children, Bert, Henry and Mrs. Palmer were here to attend the funeral.
