Guy Dowdey, 59, who spent practically all his life in Hawarden and the Hudson community, died last Thursday at his home after an illness of a number of years.

Funeral services wee held at 2 o'clock Monday afternoon at the First Baptist church with Rev. Paul Williams, the pastor, in charge. James Squier, the soloist, was accompanied on the organ by Mrs. J. E. Tilgner, when he sang "Going Down the Valley", "Beyond the Sunset" and "In The Garden".

The American Legion conducted military rites at the grave and the Frazier Funeral Home was in charge of the burial in Grace Hill Cemetery. Pall bearers were Jay Ashmore, Fritz Hillman, Lloyd Strong, Jesse Vearrier, Jim Gourley and Ellis Wood.

Guy Dowdey was born December 6, 1894 in Hawarden. He was a carpenter by trade the earlier part of his life. He served in World War I and was a member of the Two Oakes Post of the American Legion.

He was married to Miss Katherine Jensen of Hawarden, May 28, 1921, and to this union three children were born.

In 1938 he engaged in the furniture repair trade and in 1943 he branched out and operated a used furniture store. In 1946 he and his son Don opened the Dowdey Furniture business. He was compelled to retire in 1949 because of his health.

He is survived by the widow; two sons, Don of Hawarden and Kenneth, who is with the air force at San Antonio, Texas; one daughter, Mrs. Dorothy Davis of Fayetteville, N.Y.; his mother, Mrs. Anna Dowdey of Storm Lake; one sister, Mrs. Bessie Smith of Storm Lake; two brothers, Harry of Independence, MO, and Roy of Fort Dodge and two grandchildren. His father and two brothers, Ralph and Charlie preceded him in death.
