Sioux Center News, April 23, 1959

Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon (tomorrow) at 2 p.m., from the Trinity Reformed Church of Orange City for Mrs. Gertrude (Rev. George) Douwstra, 78, who passed away Tuesday morning at the home of her sister, Mrs. Nellie Luymes, in Orange City. Death was due to a heart attack.

Mrs. Douwstra's home was at Holland, Mich., but she had been visiting with relatives at Orange City since December.

Burial will be made in the Orange City cemetery under the direction of Van Ettens.

Mrs. Douwstra, nee Gertrude De Jong, was born November 1, 1880, at Orange City. She was united in marriage to George Douwstra and two children were born to them. Rev. & Mrs. Douwstra served several churches of the Reformed denomination, including one at Hospers and also at the First Reformed church of Hull for several years.

Survivors are a daughter, Mrs. G. Korstage, of Bellevue, Mich.; a son, Howard, of Holland, Mich.; two brothers, P. G. and George De Jong both of Orange City, and two sisters, Mrs. Minnie Aalberts and Mrs. Nellie Luymes, also of Orange City.

Her husband preceded her in death in June of 1950 and several brothers and sisters also preceded her.
