Hawarden Independent December 26, 1963

Leslie E. Tomlinson, 20, son of a former Hawarden resident, Mrs. Charles Tomlinson, and Mr. Tomlinson of Sioux City, died recently aboard a Navy destroyer near Japan. Further information about the death had not yet been learned.

The body will be brought to the Winter Funeral Home in Sioux City.

The mother of the boy is the former Isabel Vander Schoor who was raised here and graduated from Hawarden High School. Her brother Harold Vander Schoor, and sister Mrs. Alfred Skogman, are Hawarden community residents.

Leslie Tomlinson was born July 19, 1943 in Sioux City and was graduated from East High School there last June.

He entered Navy service two days after graduation. He had served two years in the Navy Reserves previously. He was a member of Grace Methodist Church.

Survivors include the parents; two brothers, Edward and James Tomlinson, both of Sioux City, and his grandmother, Mrs. Meda Tomlinson, of Ames.

Funeral services are pending.
