Henry Soodsma, 89, of Hull died Monday, May 7, at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls.

Funeral services were Thursday, May 10, at 10:30am at First Christian Reformed Church in Hull with the Rev. Carl Klompien officiating. Burial was at Hope Cemetery in Hull.

Soodsma was born June 16, 1911, of Prairie View, Kansas , the son of Peter and Bertha (Dekker) Soodsma. He moved with his family to the Doon area as a child. He married Anna Klein on June 22, 1933, in Doon. The couple farmed near Hull until September 1969, when they retired and moved into Hull. They spent winters in Arizona for 14 years.

He was a member of First Christian Reformed Church, where he served on the consistory as a deacon. He was also a member of the board of directors at Hull Christian School. He enjoyed the outdoors and fishing.

Survivors include his wife; two sons and their wives, Peter and Helen and Robert and Sharon, all of Doon; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Irma Scholten of Hull (Mother of Mrs. Eddie Brummel, Sioux Center)

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Bart and John; and two sisters; Clara Feenstra adn Mabel Koele.
