Mr. Harry Somsen, 86, of Orange City died unexpectedly Sunday, Oct. 13 at his home in Orange City.

Services were at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 16, in the First Reformed Church in Orange City. The Rev. Cecil Martens officiated. Burial was in West Lawn Cemetery. Family visitation was at the Van Gelder Funeral Home in Orange City.

Mr. Somsen was born Aug. 20, 1899, in Baldwin, Wis., the son of Henry J. and Johanna (Rauerdink) Somsen. He married Wilmina Muyskens June 13, 1945 in Orange City.

He owned and operated an elevator in Woodville, Wis., until 1970 when the couple moved to Orange City, where he worked at Northwestern College until his retirement in 1984.

Mr. Somsen was a member of First Reformed Church.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Cornelius of Minnetonka, Minn., and the Rev. Philip of Elk Grove, Calif.; five daughters, Mrs. Tom (Ruth) Keizer of Minnetonka, Miss Rachel Somsen of Minneapolis, Mrs. Mark (Miriam) Vellinga of Storm Lake and Mrs. Tim (Lois) Ditmer and Mrs. Keith (Eunice) Stroh, both of Sioux Falls, S.D.; a brother, Albert of Baldwin; a sister, Nina of Baldwin, and 10 grandchildren.
