William "Will" Winterfeld, 99, of Rock Valley died Tuesday, October 25, in a hospital in Rock Valley.

Services were at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, October 27, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Rock Valley, with the Rev. James Demke officiating. Burial was in Valley View Cemetery.

Winterfeld was born February 25, 1889, in Cleverns, Germany. He attended school in Germany and was a lawyer's apprentice. At the age of 16 he came to the United States and to rural Rock Valley. He married Louisa Yunker December 17, 1913, at the Yunker farm near Rock Valley. The couple farmed for 35 years until moving into Rock Valley in 1948. His wife died July 31, 1972. He moved to Valley Manor in 1984.

Winterfeld served on the Plato Township board of trustees and Plato Township school board for many years. He served on election boards for 50 years and also on the Country Conservation Board for 16 years. He was a member of the Rock Valley City Council for 16 years and also served as Rock Valley Parks Commissioner. He was an active member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church.

Survivors include a son, Wilbert of Rock Valley; three grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
