Mabel Tuinstra, 86, Sibley, died Monday, Jan. 22 at Osceola Community Hospital in Sibley after a brief illness.

Services were Monday, Jan. 29, at First Presbyterian Church of Sibley, with Rev. Kenneth MacLeod officiating. Burial was at Gilman Township Cemetery in Ashton, under the direction of Walton, Roste & Vogel Funeral Home in Ashton.

Mabel Tunistra, daughter of Jake and Hattie (Houwen) Menage, was born Dec 21, 1914, in Matlock. She was raised near Ashton and attended Ashton Public School.

She married Elmer Tuinstra on April 14, 1933. They farme4d in the Melvin, May City and Harris areas. She was fond of farming and felt it was a comfortable lifestyle for her family. They moved to Sibley in 1965, where they operated Tuinstra Oil Co. 1965-75. Mr. Tuinstra died Oct. 25, 1976. She continued to live in their home until moving to a condominium.

She was an active member of First Presbyterian Church in Sibley, where she participated in Naomi Circle and Never Alone Club. She enjoyed crafting, sewing, knitting and crocheting in her free time.

Survivors include five children, Eldon "Bud" and Marion Tuinstra of Lake Park, Eloise and Dennis Heppler of Sheldon, Dick and Dwalla Tuinstra of Jefferson City, MO., Darlene Tuinstra of Sibley, and Linda Lyons of Arlington, WA; nine grandchildren; a brother, Peter and Leona Menage of Sibley and a sister, Lorraine and Donald Elzenga of Sibley.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer Tuinstra; a daughter, June Y Tuinstra; a son, Elmer G. Tuinstra; three sisters, Tracy Schoonmeester, Esther Meester and Evelyn Lopau; and a brother, William Menage.
