Gladys Mantel, 71, of Doon died Friday in a Sioux City hospital following heart surgery.

Services were at 10am Tuesday in the Protestant Reformed Church in Doon. Candidate R. Dykstra officiated. Burial was in Hillside Cemetery at Doon.

Mrs. Mantel, the former Gladys Schutt, was born April 4, 1915, at Sioux Center and attended school there. She married John Mantel Feb. 5, 1937, in Sioux Center. The couple farmed in the Doon area until Moving into Doon in 1948. He then did custom farm work. Mr. Mantel died Jan. 4, 1983.

She was a member of the Protestant Reformed Church.

Survivors include four sons, John and Marvin, both of Rock Valley, Glen of Doon and Robert of Hull; five daughters, Mrs. Glen (Joanne) Greeley of Coon Rapids, Minn., Mrs. Roger (Cynthia) Hofstra of Sheldon, Mrs. James (Marge) Hoogendoorn of Doon, Francene Lowrie of Le Mars and Mrs. Alan (Sandra) Thielvoldt of Rock Valley; 23 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
