John Cornelius De Hoogh, 96, Sheldon, died Sunday, June 13, at Fieldcrest Assisted Living in Sheldon.

Services were Thursday, June 17, at First Reformed Church in Sheldon. Burial was at East Lawn Cemetery in Sheldon, under the Vander Ploeg Funeral Home.

John De Hoogh, son of Theodore G. and Andrianna (Orange) De Hoogh, was born Dec 31, 1907, on a farm near Boyden. He received his education and graduated from Sheldon Christian School. He worked at Molmen Dairy in Sheldon and other farm labor. He married Patrice Claire Robertson on Oct. 30, 1942 in Sioux City. He joined the Navy Air Corps in 1944 and the young couple lived in Iowa City and Bunker Hill IN, where he was a n air acrobatics instructor. He was discharged from the service in 1945, after receiving the rank of lieutenant junior grade. He and his wife returned to Sheldon area, where he started farming and gave flying lessons to anyone interested in flying. He retired from farming in 1977 and they moved into Sheldon.

He was a member of the First Reformed Church in Sheldon and the Sheldon American Legion. He enjoyed performing as a stunt pilot in local air shows, fishing, hunting, woodworking and watching baseball.

Survivors include his wife, Patrice Claire De Hoogh of Sheldon; a son, John F "Jack" and Susan De Hoogh of Sheldon; two grandchildren, Matthew De Hoogh and Angela De Hoogh; and a brother, Dick and Jessie De Hoogh of Fairbault, MN.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, Cornie De Hoogh, Theodore De Hoogh, Adrian De Hoogh and Gerard De Hoogh.
