Sioux Center News December 25, 1958

Funeral services were held at St. Paul, Minn., Saturday, December 20, for Gerrit G. (Larry) Deiters, 57 former Sioux Center resident and 1919 graduate of the local high school, who passed away December 17 at the Miller hospital in St. Paul of cancer.

He is remembered by many in Sioux Center for his basketball powers while a high school student here. A star forward, some of his teammates back in the "teens" were George De Ruyter, Ed Te Veltrup.

Born at Hull, Ia, Mr. Deiters spent his boyhood days in Sioux Center. He and his wife, the former Helen Lytle, moved to St. Paul about 30 years ago where they had since made their home.

Survivors besides Mrs. Deiters include a daughter, Gretchen; a son, Gary G; a grandson, Gerritt Deiters III, all of St. Paul; six sisters, Mrs. Ben Poll, Mrs. Richard Rozeboom, Mrs. Richard Juffer, all of Sioux Center; Mrs. Walter Hughes, of Des Moines; Mrs. Edward Fischer and Mrs. Henry Addink, both of Muskegon, Mich; and three brothers, Herman of Grand Rapids, Mich, Tunis of Hawarden and Harold of Sioux City.

Burial was made in the Roselawn Cemetery at St. Paul.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, John.
